Medium is testing out custom domains

Medium is testing out custom domains

Medium, the minimalist blogging platform, is taking on WordPress and Squarespace with a simple but important new feature: custom domain support.

Only for some lucky publishers, however. There are only four launch partners: New America, Midcentury Modern, Substance and The Nib. Still, you can expect other well known sites to be added soon.

It’s unclear exactly how much Medium wants to open up custom domains to the public though. The company says it’s working out the kinks before a wider roll-out, and offers a form for publications interested in signing up for their own domain.

On the other hand, the company ascertains it does not intent to extend custom domains to user profiles.

While this changes nothing about the content itself, it does place it on a platform that many find to be easier to read with an intriguing inline commenting system. At least URLs will be easier to type now.
