PlayStation Network goes down, hacker group claims credit

Sony’s online service for its gaming console, PlayStation Network, is currently down, with users reporting issues logging in over the past couple of hours — and notorious hacker outfit Lizard Squad claims they’re responsible for the outage.

PlayStation Network’s status page confirms that some users may have trouble with the service at the moment, but hasn’t shared details on the nature or cause of the issue.

PSN Down

PSN support says they’re aware of the downtime and are currently looking into it:

While it’s unclear whether this is a maintenance problem or if Lizard Squad attacked PSN servers, the outage comes just a couple of days after Xbox Live for Xbox 360 went down, with the hacker group claiming credit. We’ve reached out to Sony for comment and will update this post as soon as we hear back.

Update: looks like PSN is up and running again, according to the PSN status page.
