Uber has ‘taken disciplinary actions’ against general manager for privacy violations

Uber has ‘taken disciplinary actions’ against general manager for privacy violations

Earlier this month Uber got itself into hot water for a variety of items, one of which involved using the company’s God View tool to spy on riders — including a journalist — without their consent.

According to Slate, Uber has finished its investigation into New York City general manager Josh Mohrer for spying on BuzzFeed journalist Johana Bhuiyan’s ride history. The company told Slate it has “taken disciplinary actions” against the executive.

The Uber spokesperson wouldn’t elaborate to Slate about what the disciplinary action actually involved. The company did state that Mohrer would keep his job, which isn’t too surprising.

The issue that kicked off the latest look into Uber’s missteps was when Senior Vice President Emil Michael floated the idea of investigating journalists at a company dinner in front of journalists. When the smoke cleared, Uber CEO Travis Kalanick fired off a tweetstorm that ended with news that Micahel would be keeping his job.
