Torrent search engine Torrentz.eu forced offline following UK police request

Torrent search engine Torrentz.eu forced offline following UK police request

Update: The Torrentz.eu domain has apparently now been unsuspended by its Poland-based registrar Nazwa, based on Torrentz’ legal team’s assertions that the original take-down was “unlawful”.

With the likes of isoHunt shutting shop, and The Pirate Bay blocked by ISPs in some countries, the humble torrent has been facing a torrid time of late. And the landscape just got a little more ugly, with news that Torrentz.eu, one of the Web’s largest search engines for torrents, has had its domain name suspended.

As TorrentFreak reports, the City of London Police has been working with copyright holders to “topple sites that provide or link to pirated content”, and the Police Intellectual Property Crime Unit (PIPCU) has now successfully made a request to take Torrentz.eu offline.

Torrentz.eu was already blocked in the UK alongside many other torrent sites, now it seems it’s offline for all. It’s still operational at two other domains, on the ccTLDs for Switzerland and Montenegro, and the Torrentz team says if it can’t reverse the .eu suspension, it will move the main domain to another registrar.
