Amazon Coins, the online retailer’s virtual currency for apps and microtransactions, are now available to customers based in France, Italy and Spain following an expansion of the service announced today.
Previously only available to users in the UK, US and Germany, the Coins can be purchased and then used to download Android and in-app items at a discount of up to 10 percent.
Marking the occasion in the same manner it did first time around, Amazon is running a promotion for Kindle Fire owners and users of the Amazon Appstore on Android devices offering 500 free coins ($5 value). To claim them, users just need to update the client and download an app. Naturally, with free virtual money sloshing about, it’s also being used by the company to encourage developers to submit their apps to the Amazon Appstore before those coins have all been spent.
