The radio streaming service Radionomy has confirmed that it has purchased Winamp and Shoutcast Radio for an undisclosed sum from AOL, in a bid to expand its music streaming offering.
We’d already heard rumors of a deal for the Belgian company to snap up the venerable Winamp media player and Shoutcast platforms, but confirmation came directly from the company today.
Now the company has Shoutcast, its list of online radio stations just shot from around 7,000 to more than 60,000, massively expanding its horizons and ambitions – particularly in the US market. It also has plans to launch new products based around the Winamp acquisition, but didn’t reveal any firm time scales. According to a report from Belgian newspaper De Tijd, Radionomy wants to capitalise on the ongoing support for Winamp and, by April, release new Winamp iOS and Android apps to provide a full multi-device experience.
