Codecademy surpasses 24 million unique users for its free online coding courses

Codecademy now has over 24 million unique users taking its free coding classes via the Web and its recently launched Hour of Code iOS app.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Codecademy breezed past the milestone last month, adding 16 million new users in the previous 12 months.

In addition to developing its first mobile app, the New York Startup is building an educational site to help teachers in the UK deliver the new computing syllabus that will be rolled out nationwide this September.

Codecademy currently lessons in numerous languages including Ruby, Python and JavaScript. The platform encourages its users to stick with the service by rewarding badges for logging in regularly and finishing courses.
