VW outs augmented reality interface for technicians working on its XL1 concept car

Volkswagen has been showing off a new augmented reality maintenance and support servicing interface for its upcoming 2014 Volkswagen XL1 concept car.

The UI augmented reality “Mobile Augmented Reality Technical Assistance” (MARTA) interface, developed in conjunction with Metaio, gives technicians working on the car the opportunity to pull up a service manual, or to get step-by-step instructions on how to carry out a specific job, or even to test out new parts (such as a different color hood, as shown in the image above) using augmented reality without the need to even lift up a spanner.
