TechStars NY gets a new managing director: Eugene Chung leaves NEA to succeed David Tisch

Following David Tisch’s decision to step down as managing director, TechStars founder and CEO David Cohen has announced that Eugene Chung, formerly of New Enterprise Associates (NEA) and Pixar, will now serve as managing director for TechStars in NYC.

Cohen details that TechStars NY is now receiving more attention than ever, having handled over “1,700 applications for [its] spring session of 2013.” To help ease Chung into his new role, TechStars Boulder Managing Director Nicole Glaros will serve as co-Managing Director in NY for the next class of startups.

Cohen states he will also be present for large portions of the program as well to help “get Eugene up to speed.”

When Tisch first left, Cohen shared the following note:

While it certainly won’t be the same around TechStars NYC without David Tisch involved on a daily basis, we’re very happy that he will remain involved with TechStars as an investor. He will also continue to be a mentor and will help us select companies as a member of our selection committee in NYC. Like the companies we fund, David Tisch will always be family at TechStars.

Since its founding in 2006, TechStars has made a name for itself as a top notch startup accelerator. The company currently operates numerous three month programs across the US, including in Boston, Boulder, San Antonio, New York City, and Seattle yearly.
