Critical Path, a company that offers communication and collaboration services, this morning announced its acquisition of Laszlo Systems, maker of the Webtop application platform. The deal dates back to December 2011 but wasn’t publicly outed until today (and conveniently right before Mobile World Congress).
The addition of Webtop will enable Critical Path to market a single application platform integrating a range of messaging, IM, voice, video and social services.
Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
George Shahid, previously CEO of Laszlo Systems, is now COO of Critical Path.
Boasting support for iOS and Android, Webtop should help Critical Path customers offer a number of online experiences to consumer and business audiences, which CEO mark Palomba claims represent more than 225 million users around the world.

The company says it will show off its messaging platform integrated with Webtop at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next week. Alas, not a peep about what will now become of its open source sibling OpenLaszlo.
Laszlo raised an unknown amount in funding from big firms like General Catalyst Partners, Mitsui Ventures, Sofinnova Ventures and WI Harper Group.
Critical Path, which merged with Mirapoint back in 2010, earlier acquired ShoZu to boost its consumer-focused mobile and social networking solutions.
