Delicious finds a new owner in YouTube founders

Delicious finds a new owner in YouTube founders

You might remember a few weeks ago when it appeared that Yahoo! was getting rid of Delicious, the social bookmarking site. Rumors had it that the selling price was around $5 million, but nobody knew for sure [full story here].

Along the way, we found a number of you were interested in how to export your bookmarks and some solid alternatives to the service. As of today, it appears that you don’t need to find a new home because it appears that Delicious will live on in the hands of YouTube founders Chad Hurley and Steve Chen.

Today, we’re pleased to announce that Delicious has been acquired by the founders of YouTube, Chad Hurley and Steve Chen. As creators of the largest online video platform, they have firsthand experience enabling millions of users to share their experiences with the world. They are committed to running and improving Delicious going forward.

According to an FAQ over at the Delicious site, Hurley and Chen have created a new business called AVOS and will be transitioning into the leadership roles for Delicious. While things will stay the same until July of this year, agreeing to the AWOS terms of service will allow you to move your data over when the time comes.

As for the future plans of AVOS and Delicious? It appears that things are going to stay relatively the same:

AVOS plans to continue the service that users have come to know and love and by working with the community, make the site even easier and more fun to save, share and discover the web’s “tastiest” content.

We’ll keep an eye on this tasty acquisition moving forward and let you know what we find.
