Do Not Panic When LinkedIn goes offline tonight, it’s just a test

Consider this post to be a public service announcement. Tonight, when LinkedIn goes offline at 5 pm PST, fret not as it will come back. If any of your friends start to moan that perhaps LinkedIn is under attack, they are wrong.

No, LinkedIn is going to take a snooze tonight for the following reasons, none of which are malicious or undue:

“to help accommodate a cutover, [and the] synchronization and testing for a new data center that we’ve been planning for months.”

LinkedIn has decided to execute the downtime today, as it is their “lowest traffic day [of the] weekend.” LinkedIn will have a blog post up on the matter shortly. It is interesting to note that when LinkedIn goes down, it is such a rare occurrence that it feels the need to let everyone know hours in advance.

That is comparable to Twitter which never seems to know if it is down or not, even in its own office. Right, were you really going to use LinkedIn today anyway?

Oh, and if you missed it there is a really neat way to take your LinkedIn profile and turn it into a real resume, check it out.
