India’s leading online gaming portal Zapak to launch a subscription-based service

India’s leading online gaming portal Zapak to launch a subscription-based service

Zapak.com, India’s leading online gaming portal and a subsidiary of Reliance BIG Entertainment, is all set to launch a new subscription based gaming service called “Zapak Plus”.

Featuring full-version game titles across genres from popular international publishers like Codemasters (in which Reliance has 50% stake), Popcap, Alawar and Absolutist, this service, which was previously available to Airtel Broadband customers, will now be available to all users for a monthly fee of Rs 99 ($2.2) /month for 120 games and Rs 149 ($3.4) /month for 200 games.

Once subscribed, you can download single/multiple game titles onto your computers and play. Further, you can download the game as many times and onto as many machines you like, but you will not able to use the same login credentials on different machines at the same time.

The subscription will be automatically renewed every month until cancelled, and 3 -5 games are to be added to the catalog every month.

Sadly, the service will be Windows-only, supporting 32 and 64 bit version of Windows 2000, XP, Vista and Windows 7.

Although its rival, IndiaGames, already provides a similar service, the games available in the catalog are quite old. Hence Zapak Plus might as well be a good wakeup call for the company, who seem to be more focussed on the mobile games, of late.

Update: Zapak Plus has now officially been launched and in addition to an online payment mode, Zapak will also be offering a cash on delivery option for its users.

Also, as an introductory launch offer, Zapak will offering its users a 3 month subscription plan at Rs 247 ($5.57) and a 3 month subscription plan for Rs 297 ($6.70) with no delivery charges for 120 games.

Rohit Sharma, CEO, Reliance Entertainment (Digital Business), said:

Zapak Plus offers an opportunity to millions of gamers to experience some of the biggest titles in PC gaming at less than Rs 1 per month at the comfort of their homes. Zapak now becomes a destination not only for flash games but for PC games too. Gamers who hitherto had access only to highly priced gaming DVDs or poor quality of pirated game DVDs can subscribe to Zapak Plus and enjoy good quality full version PC games at affordable pricing. This offering will continue to add world class content on regular basis to give the very best to the gamers. Zapak Plus has received an overwhelming response from the 8 mn strong Zapak community in last 3 days through pre-booking before the official launch of the service and bookings are ramping up on day to day basis facilitated by extensive cash collection network set up by Zapak Plus across 50 cities, an initiative not heard in gaming industry in India.
