Google quietly introduces a 64-bit version of its Chrome Canary browser for Mac OS X

Google quietly introduces a 64-bit version of its Chrome Canary browser for Mac OS X

After releasing a beta version of its 64-bit Chrome browser for Windows 7 and Windows 8, Google is turning its attention to Mac OS X. As iClarified reports, the company has quietly switched its developer-focused Chrome app, Chrome Canary, to a 64-bit version.

If you download the latest version of Chrome Canary for Mac, you should see “64-bit” listed clearly in the About section. The new version arrives just a couple of months after Google released a 64-bit build in the Dev and Canary channels for Windows; it was then moved up to the beta channel on July 30.

Given this release is part of Chrome Canary, at least a few bugs (or a lot, if you’re unlucky) should be expected. The relatively short amount of time between the Canary and beta versions for Windows means we could see an equally speedy release schedule for Mac OS X. When Google releases a 64-bit version of Chrome for its beta and stable channels, we’ll be sure to let you know.
