Google has acquired cybersecurity startup Impermium in a bid to improve its abuse monitoring efforts. The company’s CEO Mark Risher explained the move in a note on its website:
By joining Google, our team will merge with some of the best abuse fighters in the world. With our combined talents we’ll be able to further our mission and help make the Internet a safer place. We’re excited about the possibilities.
Impermium has been around for three years, raising $9 million in funding along the way. The company offered protection services for detecting fraudulent logins and transactions. According to TechCrunch, Impermium has notified customers that it will discontinue the product.
