Google today announced the release of Google Play Editions of the Sony Z Ultra for $649 and the LG G Pad 8.3 for $349. Both are available now in the US from Google Play: Sony Z Ultra Google Play Edition and LG G Pad 8.3 Google Play edition.
Earlier today, LG leaked that the G-Pad tablet would be getting a Google Play Edition variant, but Sony managed to keep its lips tight for its Z Ultra device. For those who don’t know, Google Play Edition simply means that the hardware is identical, while the software is stock Android (resulting in more frequent updates thanks to the lack of custom OEM software).
