In California? You could test Google’s Project Loon balloon-powered Internet service

Google’s Project Loon initiative, the company’s audacious trial of balloon-powered Internet, is looking for helpers for a pilot in California… but before you get excited about the chance to float in the clouds, it’s ground-based help that is being solicited.

Google seeks volunteers in California’s Central Valley region to add a Loon Internet antennae (see below) to their house or building to help measure the strength of the signal delivered by balloons during a testing phase that runs from this month until the end of the year.

Specifically, Google is appealing to residents of Madera, Chowchilla, Mariposa, Merced and Turlock, who can sign up here.
