You can now pre-order the world’s most powerful webcam

Gaming hardware maker Razer’s latest webcam, the Stargazer, is finally available to pre-order from its online store. The device carries a price tag of $149.99, which is $50 less than originally announced, and will start shipping on Sunday, October 2.

At first glance, you may mistake the Stargazer for a stun grenade on a stand, but don’t let its appearance fool you as it’s actually the most advanced webcam to have ever hit the shelves.

For starters, it’s capable of recording 60 fps at 720p and 30 fps at 1080p, while actively using facial recognition to keep the subject in focus for the entire duration of the video.

The Stargazer also ships with an intuitive background removal tool that enables users to do away with space-consuming physical green screen setups. Instead, they can appear in front of an artificial backdrop that’s created around them using the device’s state of the art depth-sensing technology. YouTube creators and Twitch streamers will find this especially useful for overlaying video of themselves on top of gameplay footage.

However, I firmly believe that the Stargazer’s most appealing feature is its compatibility for 3D scanning. This, coupled with the webcam’s extremely accurate facial recognition algorithm, will make it easier than ever for gamers to map their faces onto in-game characters.
