Netflix hacked a vintage 1950s TV to stream its shows

As part of its recent Hack Day program, four Netflix engineers found an antique Philco Predicta TV set built in the 1950s and tweaked it to play content right from the company’s streaming service.

The team not only got the retro-futuristic TV set — known for its slick design and swiveling screen — to display Netflix content, but also managed to get the two knobs on the side to work as controls for scrolling through shows on offer.

The picture quality is far from great, but the re-engineered TV would probably make for an excellent conversation starter in your living room — if you can get your hands on one, that is.
