LG updates flagship Optimus G smartphone to Android Jelly Bean for upcoming European launch

After selling more than 1 million units of its Optimus G smartphone, LG has updated the device for its European launch, which will begin later this month.

The company has announced that the new Optimus G will arrive first in Sweden before landing in other markets, including France, Germany and Italy.

The European version of the Optimus G will run Android Jelly Bean 4.1.2 (compared to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich on last year’s version). The device features a 4.7-inch 1280 x 768 IPS display, a quad-core 1.5GHz processor and a 13-megapixel camera.

LG also says it has improved the user experience for the device, with upgrades to its QSlide multitasking feature, as well as Safety Care and Privacy Keeper. The company has posted a hands-on video demonstrating some of the new upgrades:

The global release of the Optimus G has been oddly staggered. It arrived first in Korea in September 2012, before heading abroad in October. The European launch comes almost four months later. LG has already announced the Optimus G Pro, a 5.5-inch version of the device, which launched in Korea this week and is due out in North America and Japan next quarter.

With Mobile World Congress just around the corner, LG has been busy announcing new models of its Optimus smartphone line. Yesterday, the South Korean company announced its mid-range Optimus F5 and F7 smartphones. LG has also unveiled its Optimus L Series II lineup. Sales of the first-generation of its L Series just passed the 15 million unit mark.
