Harman’s JBL brand is teaming up with Nokia to develop a new range of wireless speakers for the Lumia smartphone range.
The new products will use Bluetooth technology in existing Lumia phones, as well as NFC for Nokia handsets based on the Windows Phone 8 operating system.
JBL and Nokia announced the first product as part of their exclusive collaboration, the JBL PlayUP Portable Wireless Speaker for Nokia, at the IFA consumer electronics show in Berlin.
The device has a maximum output of 89 dB and can be connected to Lumia devices using the aforementioned bluetooth technology.
Hans Henrik Lund, Vice President and head of Nokia Gear, said:
“With our joint passion for innovation and technology, Nokia and JBL have created a portable speaker for people who really love music and take it with them wherever they go.”
In a press release from Nokia, the smartphone giant said the exclusive partnership would create speakers with “room-filling acoustics” and “dynamic design”.
Sachin Lawande, executive vice president of Harman and co-president of Harman Lifestyle and Infotainment, said:
Working with industry pioneer Nokia provides a tremendous opportunity to expand our own value sets and bring to market unique audio products that meet today’s demand for uninterrupted consumer connectivity.
Audio is an increasingly mobile experience, following consumers everywhere they go. Developing technologies for wireless portable audio meets the ever-growing demand for immediate and easy accessibility.
