Facebook is making mobile notifications more personal and location-based

Facebook is making mobile notifications more personal and location-based

Facebook is giving Android and iOS users a bit more granular control over notifications. In a blog post, the social media company says notifications will be a bit more “personalized.”

Along with your current notifications, you’ll also be able to see the following:

Milestones friends might have, like birthdays or life events
Sports scores or TV show reminders, which rely on pages you’ve followed
Upcoming events you’ve accepted invitations to via Facebook
Community events
Movies playing near you
Weather updates
Nearby restaurants

Your current notification settings won’t change, and Facebook is promising granular control over these new items.

It’s more noise, but those whose lives revolve around Facebook might be happy with it. The app is already pretty power consumptive (even without the recent problems), so be sure you can afford the battery drain before going all-in with more notifications.
