No escape? Facebook is reportedly in talks to host New York Times, BuzzFeed and other content

No escape? Facebook is reportedly in talks to host New York Times, BuzzFeed and other content

It’s been reported a few times now that Facebook plans to host third-party content on its site, but today The New York Times has shared that a handful of publications are in discussions to begin the program very soon.

According to the report, Facebook has been in talks with The New York Times, BuzzFeed and National Geographic for a number of months, along with other partners to begin hosting content exclusively on the social network soon.

Facebook is also reportedly offering options for publishers to make a cut from advertising shown alongside the content.

The move is supposedly in order to make the experience of consuming news much easier and the company has publicly said that it would like to improve it previously, however it seems like such a deal would only benefit Facebook more than the news organizations themselves.

If it were me, I’d be wary of the idea of giving so much power over my content to Facebook, but it’s looking like such deals are almost inevitable.
