PayPal is trialling a check-in based mobile payment service in Berlin

PayPal has launched a pilot project for a payment-cum-check-in service in Berlin, Germany as it tests out ways to make in-roads into the European mobile payment market.

The trial will see customers be able to walk into participating shops and restaurants and pay for goods and services automatically (with authorization, of course) and works simply by recognizing the customer profile when they enter and then linking it to their PayPal account.

The company announced the pilot on its German blog yesterday. According to TechCrunch today, German startup Orderbird is being tapped for help during the trial on account of its POS (Point Of Sale) software expertise.
