Meeet connects designers and developers to collaborate on their side projects

Side projects are tricky. You’ve usually got plenty of ideas, but finding the time to work on and eventually ship the product is another thing altogether.

Meeet, a new online community of developers and designers, feels your pain. The network, which is currently in beta, matches up developers and designers to partner on a single side project, such as a website or an app. When you’re ready to ship, you can showcase your work to the rest of the community.

When you fill out your profile, you add your skills and bio. Projects tag the skills they’re looking for, so it’s easy to see which ones are a good fit for you.

This isn’t exactly a novel idea. Plenty of other design and development communities exist for finding collaborators. However, Meeet aims to differentiate itself with a narrow focus. First, Meeet is for side projects, so it’s not the best place to find a co-founder for that hot startup idea that you just quit your job for.

Also, Meeet isn’t a fully open community, so the quality of people you’ll find on their should, in theory, be pretty high. You can create a profile on your own, but you’ll need an invite from an existing user to post your own projects and apply to others. Projects are limited to a single developer and a single designer. You can only work on one idea at a time. After all, it’s common knowledge that if  you have too many projects going at once, it’s almost impossible to get any of them finished.

Specialized professional social networks like Meeet live and die by the quality and commitment of their members. Since the community is still in a formative phase, new members can have a direct impact on whether it will succeed.
