Adobe Photoshop Touch finally comes the iPhone and Android smartphones, priced at $4.99

Adobe has unwrapped a welcome gift for smartphone owners after it announced the launch of its Photoshop Touch app for the iPhone and Android devices, priced at $4.99.

To date, owners of Apple’s smartphones have had to be content with Photoshop Express, since the company’s Touch product had been limited to tablets, but now that’s all changed. Photoshop Touch is available right away for devices running iOS 6.0 and up, or Android 4.0 and up. There’s one notable caveat, support for the iPhone only stretches back to the iPhone 4S, though the fifth-generation iPod touch is covered.

Headline features of the product include the ability to enhance images using layers, selection tools, filters, tonal and color adjustments, while users can apply other effects and add graphical text. Images up to 12 megapixel can be edited using layers, while the Scribble Selection feature enables multiple images to be brought together as one.

The product includes integration with Adobe Creative cloud, which features a handy 2GB of free storage.

Acknowledging the importance of bringing the touch-based product to mobile, Winston Hendrickson, Adobe’s VP of products, said:

Mobile phones are increasingly becoming the primary tool for people to take and edit photos. Adobe is dedicated to serving our customers’ evolving creative workflow and we heard, loud and clear, that Photoshop fans wanted some core Adobe imaging magic on their smartphones.

Photoshop Touch debuted on Android, hitting tablets running the Google-owned OS in October 2011. It went on to land on the iPad in February 2012, before making its way to Kindle devices in November. The most recent tablet version — 1.4 — added support for the iPad mini and Google Nexus 7, as well as optimizations for other smaller tablet displays.
