The Canadian e-book company Kobo, released an iPad app back in December that brought a social layer to its e-book app by allowing users to “check-in” to books with the added benefit of sharing favourite passages with Facebook. However, the social feature (Reading Life) was only available on the iPad until now.
Starting today, book lovers can now use the Reading Life feature on the iPhone and iPod Touch to share books, notes, passages (with Facebook) and track personal reading stats and milestones. Similar to services like Glue, users can also earn awards/ badges for achievements such as “check-ins” to various books in the Kobo library.
Aside from the social aspect, the app itself contains 1.8 million free books with access to over 2.2 million new releases that can be purchased within the app. Dozens of newspapers and magazines are additionally offered plus the option to clip online content with Instapaper which delivers you a daily newspaper sporting all of the latest clippings from websites you’ve saved to Instapaper. The Kobo app is free and is available at the app store.
