Nintendo will introduce new consoles specifically designed for emerging markets next year

Nintendo will new launch new consoles that are specifically designed and priced for emerging markets next year, Bloomberg reports. Company president Satoru Iwata told the news agency that its emerging market consoles will be entirely new, rather than modified versions of existing products.

“We want to make new things, with new thinking rather than a cheaper version of what we currently have. The product and price balance must be made from scratch,” Iwata said, although he declined to provide more specific information about what is planned.

Nintendo announced plans for mobile and web companion apps for its Mario Kart franchise, but still the firm is resisting launching games for mobile and that doesn’t look like changing soon. “We have had a console business for 30 years and I don’t think we can just transfer that over onto a smartphone model,” Iwata told Bloomberg.
