Chukong Technologies, one of the top Chinese mobile gaming publishers and studios, has announced the upcoming launch of a developer suite for its popular open-source Cocos2D-X engine. Cocos2D-X, an extension of the original Cocos2D framework, is billed as the world’s most popular cross-platform game engine with over 400,000 developers that have accumulated a total of 2 billion downloads with their titles.
The English version of the new developer toolset is expected to arrive by the end of the month and will be Windows-only at first. CocosStudio includes an interface for editing scenes, GUIs and animation for the engine.
Coinciding with the news, Chukong has announced completion of a $50 million Series D round led by New Horizon Capital with a post-money valuation of $500 million. Earlier this month, the company, which is booking more than $12 million in monthly revenue, reorganized to consolidate its CocoaChina, Punchbox and Cocos2d-x brands under the Chukong name.
