Instagram puts Stories front and center in the Explore tab

Instagram Stories are about to get a lot more public. The company today announced it’s bringing Stories to its Explore tab, making it easy to find new Stories from random people around the world.

When you open up Explore, you’ll find a new ‘suggested stories’ section at the top including content only from people you’re not already following, from pretty much anywhere on the planet. As with images and videos, Instagram says the results are tailored to your interests.

When Instagram introduced its Stories in August, it was called out for flat-out copying Snapchat, but Instagram has been building up the feature to be worthy of its own merit.

Availability in Explore adds another bit of differentiation against Snapchat; their public nature gives you a glimpse of what people are doing around the world. Instagram still has a leg up on Snapchat when it comes to discovering interesting new content, and today’s update continues that trend.

The feature is rolling out to everyone today.
