Do you use WhatsApp on Android? Are you avid in emoji-nese? Then I have some good news for you.
As spotted by Android Police, the most recent version of WhatsApp in the Play Store (2.12.441) just added a ton of more emoji from the latest Unicode updates. iOS and Web users have had these for a while, but they’re only just now coming to the Android variant.
The new emoji include expressions for things like rolling eyes, hugs, upside down smiles and more. There’s also now a new section just for flags, and hearts are included under symbols instead of people and faces. These are pretty much the same set of emoji included with iOS 9.1, which we detailed here.
To be clear, WhatsApp users who manually downloaded the APK from the app’s website have had access to these emoji for some time, but this is the first time they’ve been rolled out for general availability.
As usual, it’s a bit of a slow rollout, so you likely won’t see the update in the Play Store quite yet, but you can expect to have a much expanded set of the modern hieroglyphics within the next few days. If you need them right now though, you can always grab the APK and install manually.
