Swarm now lets you direct message friends of friends, so don’t be creepy

Swarm just got a little bit creepy — or maybe a lot handier. We can’t tell. Via an update, Swarm now allows users message friends of friends.

Say you wanted to reach out to an acquaintance that also liked to mountain bike. You could do that via Swarm without having to ask a mutual friend for their info.

Similarly, you could creep on friends of friends. The drunk messaging scenarios Swarm is opening us up to are just not quantifiable.

Thankfully, you can choose to deny messages from second-hand pals when you receive them, and Swarm also allows DMs from your friend’s friends to be turned off entirely.

The feature is likely meant to retain users and bond a loose-knit mesh network of friends, but it could get weird — and fast.
