The BBC is giving the free BBC News app for iOS and Android its first major redesign since it launched in 2010. The new app will roll out for both platforms in the UK over the next few days and go global over the next few months.
The new app showcases top stories, most watched stories and live coverage with personally selected and recommended topics based on what you read and what’s trending.
The update now lets you follow topics that particularly interest you, bring them together in the My News section. There’s access to live coverage from the BBC News channel and catchup highlights as well as video features.
As well as offering global, national and regional news, the app can tap into location data from your device to show news based on where you are at that particular moment.
The BBC says 50 percent of users now consumer BBC News on mobile and tablet, up from 25 percent in 2012. The BBC News app has been downloaded over 40 million times.
