TunnelBear’s mobile VPN app gets a beautiful animated new look

TunnelBear’s mobile VPN app gets a beautiful animated new look

We’ve been big fans of the TunnelBear virtual private network (VPN) for a fair few years here at TNW, and today the app has been given a major lick of paint on both Android and iOS.

To recap, TunnelBear lets you send and receive data across the Web while connected to a private network that cloaks your data and location. This can be used to a myriad of ends, one of which is that it can let people pretend they are in one country, when in fact they are in another. This can let them access location-specific content, websites and apps.

Smarter than the average TunnelBear

As you can see from the before-and-after screenshots below, the old, dark look (left) has been replaced by a bright, map-based incarnation (right).

The 💜 of EU tech

The latest rumblings from the EU tech scene, a story from our wise ol' founder Boris, and some questionable AI art. It's free, every week, in your inbox. Sign up now!

To activate it, all you do is switch it to ‘On’, click your country of choice, and the little animated bear will burrow its way across. You’re notified when the secure connection is enabled.

While you can gain access to 500MB of ‘Tunneling’ per month for free, you will have to pay to unlock unlimited access. Just now, this costs $2.99/month, or $29.99/year.

Alternatively, if you fancy doing a little marketing for TunnelBear, sending out a tweet will garner an extra 1GB of data per month. A simple but geniusly-effective way of spreading the good word.

Though TunnelBear is available everywhere, you can only set your location to a handful of countries, including the US, Canada, UK, Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands and Japan.

TunnelBear remains one of the best VPN apps out there, and you can grab the updated version from Google Play and the App Store now.
