Automatic partners with Ford to add Siri and IFTTT support to SYNC-equipped cars

Connected car startup Automatic has announced a partnership with Ford that adds support for Siri and IFTTT to the Ford SYNC in-car system.

The new integration will arrive with an update to the iOS app in coming weeks. Owners of Automatic’s accessory, an iPhone and a compatible Ford car will be able to activate Siri using the push-to-talk button on their steering wheels. SYNC will also have access to Automatic’s IFTTT channel, allowing drivers to trigger recipes with the press of a button.

Ford models that support the Automatic integration include:

  • Explorer (2011-2015)
  • Flex (2013-2015)
  • F-150 (2011-2014)
  • F-Series Super Duty (2011-2015)
  • Taurus (2013-2015)
  • Lincoln (MKS 2013-2015)
  • Lincoln (MKT 2013-2015)
  • Lincoln (MKX 2011-2014)
  • Lincoln Navigator (2015)

The partnership is Automatic’s first deep collaboration with a car manufacturer. The company’s device offers automated crash alerts, maintenance monitoring and fuel estimates.
