Interview with Foodspotting’s Soraya Darabi: What it takes to run a startup

Foodspotting, one of the most popular social foodie apps, began in 2009 when cofounders Alexa Andrzejewski, Ted Grubb and Soraya Darabi put their heads together to address what they felt was a lack of proper food reviewing apps.

Foodspotting celebrated its one-year anniversary this January and boasts over 600,000 iPhone app users and the equivalent in website visits. It also has an Android app in beta and $3 million in Series A funding plus a $750,000 seed round.

Now Foodspotting is expanding rapidly, including upcoming partnerships with Seamless Web, Open Table and BBC America. Soraya took the stage at Tech Crunch Disrupt yesterday as a startup rally judge. What does it take to run a startup? “Enthusiasm and an ability to work from anywhere,” she says.

We caught up with Soraya briefly to discuss Foodspotting’s expansion and what it takes to run a startup. Watch here:
