Apple buys startup that allows you to store and transfer health records

Apple has made another move that could make iOS the de facto health platform of the future. According to a new report from Fast Company, it has purchased Gliimpse, a startup aimed at secure medical record transfers.

Gliimpse allows users to gather records from various sources (like doctor’s offices or emergency care facilities), add their own documents and journal how they’re feeling. The service also offers surveys and a way to share your data to help researchers gather metadata, which dovetail nicely with Apple’s HealthKit and CareKit platforms.

With iOS 10, Apple is allowing patients to request and store health records. It reportedly acquired Gliimpse earlier this year.

Like most Apple acquisitions, expect Gliimpse’s technology to simply be folded into whatever Apple has going on internally rather than operated independently as a subsidiary.
