Apple strikes deal with UnionPay to work with Chinese payment cards

Apple has announced that customers in China can now use UnionPay, the country’s most popular payment card, to make one-tap purchases from their iPhones.

Apple’s deal with UnionPay will allow customers to link their Apple ID to a debit or credit card to make payments straight from their phones.

Previously, Apple’s Chinese customers had to transfer money into their App Store accounts first before buying apps. The UnionPay deal means they’ll now just be charged when they make a purchase. Apple is set to open 25 new stores in China by the end of 2016.
