Apple acquires LuxVue and its highly efficient micro-LED screen technology

Apple acquires LuxVue and its highly efficient micro-LED screen technology

Apple has confirmed that it has acquired LuxVue, a company stealthily working on display technology that could potentially extend the battery life of new devices.

Apple and LuxVue are both mum on the specifics of the acquisition. But, TechCrunch reports that LuxVue will be added to the hardware innovations area.

While a rumored iWatch could benefit from a low-power display, the technology could help all of Apple’s mobile devices. Short battery life is still one of the issues that plagues all smartphones. The technology is apparently so impressive that it was rumored to power the display of the next version of Google Glass. Of course, being purchased by Apple could throw a wrench into those plans.

Apple has been gobbling up quite a few companies lately. It has acquired 24 companies in the past 18 months.
