Apple is reportedly seeking a breakthrough in streaming TV by teaming up with Comcast

Apple is in talks with cable TV provider Comcast to come up with a streaming TV service that dishes up high network-like quality TV shows, the Wall Street Journal reports.

The arrangement being discussed would make use of an Apple set-top box for streaming live and on-demand TV shows and digital recordings stored in the cloud, but the TV service’s traffic would be separated from public Internet access, effectively avoiding slow buffering that can take place while streaming Web video.

The WSJ says that Apple and Comcast aren’t close to an agreement yet as there are many issues to iron out, but it would make sense for both companies keen on advancing set-top box technology to eventually model TV after the apps and streaming-video services with which users are now familiar.
