Apple’s new iCloud.com officially launches with updated Mail, Find My iPhone, Reminders and Notes apps

Apple’s new iCloud.com officially launches with updated Mail, Find My iPhone, Reminders and Notes apps

Apple has today launched the new official version of iCloud.com — its web portal for cloud services — to all users, reports 9to5Mac. The site features versions of its Mail, Contacts and Calendar and Find my iPhone apps that were previously available through the MobileMe service, as well as new apps like Notes, Reminders and iWork.

The site was previously available in beta form, but the wrapping has come off and it should be available to everyone now. At this point, it only seems to be available on desktop, not on iPad.

The launch page features Mail, Contacts, Calendar, Find My iPhone and iWork icons on a Mountain Lion-like linen background. When you click on the icons you are taken to full-screen versions of the apps that feature a small iCloud logo in the corner that allows you to get back to the main menu.

Reader Matthew M. notes that Find My iPhone is still powered by Google’s mapping services, despite the fact that iOS has switched over to Apple’s solution. This isn’t too surprising, as Apple doesn’t have any web presence for its maps just yet, even when sending directions to people.

Find My iPhone also gets Lost Mode, a new addition to iOS 6 that locks your device and displays a message and contact phone number until your device is returned.

The new iCloud.com also includes a new version of the Mail app that looks very similar to the one foud in OS X Lion’s and, of course, on the iPad. It has added support for VIPs as well, which are present in OS X Mountain Lion and iOS 6.

When you compose a new email, it is opened in its own, smaller window, allowing you to write the mail while referring back to the conversation.

Apple has also added support for iWork documents that gives access to Pages, Numbers and Keynote files via iCloud. This will show you any documents you’ve saved into iCloud from either OS X or iOS.

The calendar app has been updated to closely resemble the iPad’s version as well, with its distinctive imitation of a leather desk calendar.

If you visit your account settings, you can set an image to represent you in mail messages and throughout the iCloud.com site. You can also use his control panel to set your preferred language and time zone.

The new apps are coming live in time for the release of iOS 6 and the upcoming iPhone 5.
