Alongside the launch of the iPhone 5, Apple has announced that it will launch a new version of its bundled headphones called EarPods, offering “breakthrough design for a more natural fit and increased durability, and an incredible acoustic quality.”
Apple says that it has shipped over 600 million sets of the old earbuds, or “over 1.2 billion little speakers,” but it has been working on the design for over three years.
The previous headphones had been blasted for their poor sound quality, but Apple has stepped up and will now include the radically redesigned accessories with the new iPhone. Controls on the actual headphone wire will be bigger and easier to use and it are designed to utilise a one size fits all design.
In order to make them fit, they made 3D scans of hundreds of ears, ensuring they don’t create a seal.
The are shipping today, but Apple has yet to name a price. They will of course come free with the iPhone 5.
