Apple reportedly readying new AirPort Express

Apple is all set to roll out a new version of its AirPort Express 802.11n wireless base station soon, according to a report by AppleInsider. The device is currently unavailable at authorised reseller DataVision and although you can purchase it on Amazon, the shipping time is estimated at 2 – 5 weeks.

AppleInsider’s sources within the company, familiar with internal builds of its AirPort Utility application for configuring the device, say the soon-to-be-released v5.6 of the app makes reference to a second generation of the 802.11n version of the AirPort Express.

Apple updated its other wireless base stations, AirPort Extreme and Time Capsule, earlier this year with higher powered antennas and, in the case of the Time Capsule, larger capacity hard drives. It seems that the smallest member of the family is about to get similar treatment as well.
