Jobs: Foxconn is not a sweatshop

Steve Jobs, speaking from the stage at D8, addresses the issues surrounding Foxxconn.

Foxconn is the largest manufacturer of Apple products, and has been plagued by a rash of suicides lately.

Jobs states that the average is well below the national average, per 100,000 people, though it “is very troubling to us.  So we send over our own people and some outside folks as well to look into the issue”.

He goes on to say that “Foxconn is not a sweatshop.  They’ve got restaurants and swimming pools.  For a factory, it’s a pretty nice factory.   We are on top of this. We look at everything at these companies. I can tell you a few things that we know. And we are all over this”.
