Power in Numbers forces Facebook to Revert to Old Terms of Use

Facebook changes it’s terms of use which now clearly states that any content you put on the site, whether you remain on the site or not, is Facebook’s property to do with as they wish.

Two weeks later, bloggers begin to take account of these changes and bring it to their readers attention. The result? Uproar.

The uproar lead to a blog post from Facebook CEO/Founder Mark Zuckerberg himself in an attempt to calm the situation and settle peoples nerves. No such luck.

Two days after that blog post, Zuckerberg posts a second post retracting their current Terms of Use for the time being until they manage to “resolve the issues that people have raised”.

As Rick Turoczy at ReadWriteWeb points out., as well as the blog post, you should notice the following message when you login to your Facebook again:

“Terms of Use Update

Over the past few days, we have received a lot of feedback about the new terms we posted two weeks ago. Because of this response, we have decided to return to our previous Terms of Use while we resolve the issues that people have raised.

If you want to share your thoughts on our new terms, check out our group Facebook Bill of Rights and Responsibilities.”

Robin Wauters at Techcrunch also points us to another response from Facebook Senior Manager Barry Schnitt who gives his take on the turn of events.
