So far, it seems like their social APIs have lacked the comprehensiveness and momentum of Facebook's. Also, whereas Google has no problem delivering best of breed products in search, ads, and apps, I've yet to see them do the same thing in the social realm. Hopefully, this new blog marks the beginning of a genuine, renewed effort and not just a change in marketing tactics. I love almost every Google product, but I’ve got to say that their efforts on the social front haven’t been as strong as in other areas.
