Mobypicture provides easy way to mail photos to Twitter

I’ve been a relatively long-time Mobypicture user. After registering at the site in December 2007, I’ve send more than 75 photos to the microblogging service. Although my recent adoption of Tweetdeck persuades me to use Twitpic sometimes, I still appreciate the mobile function of Mobypicture a lot. Also because of the Flickr and Wordpress integration.

Twitter / Ernst-Jan Pfauth: New Orleans, THE best wifi ...The only hurdle to take is the sign-up at the horribly designed Mobypicture site (a new design is on its way). Founder Mathys van Abbe took that barrier away by offering a new and easy email feature. In a post titled Mobypicture <3 Twitter van Abbe notes:

Send an email or MMS containing a photo, a title (subject) and optional a text (body) to:

twitterusername.twitterpassword@mobypicture.com
(so for example: johndoe.jane@mobypicture.com)

Your photo will be published (see picture) and you’ll then receive a DM with instructions for sign-up, which you can also choose to ignore. This feature is particularly handy for those who don’t own an iPhone or a smart phone that supports a Twitter app. Happy photo emailing!

  • Why do I get the feeling this is not as revolutionary as you make it sound?
  • Well, there are many services which offer similar functionality. Mobypicture just works. Nothing too spectacular, but it works and that is why I use it too...
  • Ernst-Jan Pfauth
I've read the post two times but don't see anything revolutionary in the way of writing. Glad to hear though that even simple news posts like these "sound" revolutionary to you.
  • It just might be exactly because it is such a non-revolutionary and simple app, I never expected this on the NEXT web. Hence the question: is there such a thing as a Previous Weblog? ;)
  • Sam
Let me get this straight you use your twitter username & password (in plain text mind you) as the username for the mobipictures account??? If this is the case YIKES!!!
  • Then you're gonna love this: Moby uses your PIN number as password :)
  • @sam
we create the username for you, but also generate a PIN code for you which has nothing to do with you Twitter password. You can then send the updates to mobyusername.pin@mobypicture.com

    @jerry
the PIN doesn't necessarily have to be the same as the PIN you use for your bank :)

@Ernst-Jan Thanks for the posting about this!

What I think is 'revolutionary' about this is that you can start using the service directly from your mobile for the first time without having to signup earlier. This makes it really convenient for events and when you're in public places... *read bars and clubs ;)*
  • That's true! But it just makes things so much easier, information overload you know... ;)
