I find Artabase a bit more professional-feeling, altho they don't have much for artists, the focus is more on galleries.

I've had some success on the New York Art Exchange. http://www.nyaxe.com/
NYAXE is ran by the same people who created the social networking site for artists called MyArtSpace at http://www.myartspace.com/

I've also done well on my website since having a blog. The main thing is to try different online venues and find out which one works for you. Ebay used to be good until they changed their seller policies.

Facebook can be a good site to use. But I notice they are quick to ban people who post links on art groups. So it is good to see social networking sites that are designed for artists.

The only thing Saatchi's site for artists has going for it is Saatchi's name. That is the only reason it has had so much press and the only reason thousands of hopeful artists flock to that site. Just look at the site! It looks like something from the late 90s! www.myartspace.com look a lot more professional.

I found Myartspace far more useful for connecting with other artists and developing long and in-depth email relationships than Deviant Art. At Deviant my efforts rewarded me with a few lame comments.

StormRaven yes artnet is the main player in town apart from saatchi however what distinguishes them is the length of time they have played this game, artnet have been going for many many years now and their status is accrued because of history, features and breadth of artists / dealers who use the site.

Ref. deviant art, this is another fantastic resource for artists and nothing can be taken away from them, they provide a great platform and have a good community. Myartspace cannot really be compared to deviant as their goals are somewhat different.

But there is room in this market for change and Myartspace has a good chance of gaining traction.

www.myartspace.com looks like a good site for artists. It seems to be more serious than www.deviantart.com and it looks like it could even rival www.artnet.com. Saatchi's site has a lot of traffic because of his name alone, but Artnet takes the prize as the most respected art site by the mainstream art world. If I was Artnet I would be worried about the new kid in town.
