Take a picture of your food and see how fatty it is with Photato

Take a picture of your food and see how fatty it is with Photato

There are plenty of apps that tell you which carbs and ingredients are in your food by looking it up on an index, but Photato wants to tell you exactly what your food is and what’s in it just by taking a picture of it on your iPhone.

The startup hasn’t even launched yet but has already grown to five people in a couple of months. I caught up with founder Taro Franke at i/o Ventures and he gave me the low down on how the app aims to copy the human cortex in recognising exactly what kind of food it is, for example telling the difference between a sweet, and normal potato.

Yes, there is a similar app called Meal Snap that performs similar functionality rather well. Whether we’ll see Photato surpass its competitor’s success once launched, time will tell.
