Kindle out of stock, Amazon promoting Kindle DX on homepage

Kindle out of stock, Amazon promoting Kindle DX on homepage

Amazon’s Kindle is currently out of stock on Amazon.com, and the online bookseller is currently promoting the larger Kindle DX on its homepage. There is no date given on Amazon as to when the Kindle will be back in stock.

Of course, the most likely explanation is just that it is well, out of stock temporarily, and will be available again shortly. However, it’s still very interesting timing.

This is very interesting for a number of reasons. First of, the Kindle’s price was recently lowered to $189, so perhaps that could have something to do with it being out of stock. Or, could it be that the overall popularity of eBooks is driving up the demand regards of price? Amazon just last week said that they are selling more eBooks than hardcover books. Also, Amazon has been pushing the Kindle hard through TV advertisements lately, so that could also be helping.

Another possibility that SlashGear points out, is perhaps Amazon has taken down the Kindle in anticipation of a new version that has been rumored for August of this year. We’ll certainly keep an eye on when and if Amazon restocks the Kindle – this could continue to get very interesting indeed.
